Originally from Buffalo, New York, Kerry earned her BFA in dance from the University of New Mexico and her MFA in choreography and dance performance from Mills College in Oakland, California. She trained in the Cecchetti Method under the direction of Norma Gelose and studied at the Joffrey Ballet School, National Academy of the Arts, as a “Young Artist” scholarship recipient for the American Dance Festival and the Paul Taylor School. She has performed as a company member with the Nevada Dance Theatre, Delta Festival Ballet, the Santa Fe Opera, Bill Evans Dance Company and Molissa Fenley and Dancers. Three of Kerry’s choreographic works have been chosen for the American College Dance Festival’s Gala Performance. Kerry has performed in new works by Donald McKayle, Robert Moses, Nathan Trice, Paul Matteson and Ma Bo; and has performed historical works by Paul Taylor, Jose Limon and Anna Sokolow. Kerry has successfully examined through Grade Six both as a student and as a teacher through the Cecchetti Council of America. She has served for over 15 years as “core ballet faculty” for the national organization Dance Master’s of America – a membership of artists and educators that advance the art of dance by improving the practice of its teaching. Kerry is a teaching professor at the University at Buffalo with research areas in teaching ballet and modern dance technique, choreography and collaboration. She is certified in Hatha Yoga through the Temple of Kriya Yoga (Chicago, Il) and has earned certification in two levels of Ultra Barre - a fusion of ballet barre, dance conditioning, and pilates-based movements used to enhance the strength and resiliency of dancers. Between 2009 – 2016 Kerry was a contributing writer for the trade magazine Dance Studio Life featuring numerous articles and departments: Voice of Higher Ed, On My Mind, and Classroom Connection. Kerry is Artistic Director for UB’s Zodiaque Dance Company which and has become a source of inspiration over the last five decades. The vision of the pre-professional company is to train future artists and enrich both the university and larger Buffalo communities through dance.
